Small groups are starting up soon for Shandon College Ministry so I decided to put the information for mine and Jessi's group in a blog to give you ladies a heads-up about what God has placed on our hearts to study this semester.
Details:
Day: Sunday
Time: 6:30 - 7:30pm
Place: Mine and Jessi's house
All of the small groups in the college ministry will be studying Radical based teachings and discussion for 3 weeks. Those weeks will be a time for you to try out the small group scene if you are a little nervous about the commitment to a group for a semester.
After the first three weeks, our group of young women will take on the book of Hebrews. Here is a brief description of what we will be getting into (adapted from the Life Application Study Bible summary of Hebrews):
"Whatever you are considering as the focus of life, CHRIST IS BETTER. He is the perfect revelation of God, the final and complete sacrifice for sin, the compassionate and understanding mediator, and the only way to eternal life. Join us as we dig deep into Hebrews and begin to see history and life from God's perspective. Then, let's give ourselves unreservedly and completely to Christ!"
As far as Jessi and I know, we will be focusing on three main components: 1) prayer, 2) service, and 3) fellowship/unity. We want you to get out of your comfort zone and dig into the Word deeper than ever before. We will be doing things like memorizing scripture and keeping prayer journals (which I think you might really love what we will be doing with them!). You will be getting to know the other ladies in the group in ways that may challenge you, but I hope you are up for it!
This group is open to any female student who is hungry to know more than just what is on the surface of what it means to be a Christian.
Our core verse:
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."

So many thoughts - I don't know where to begin.
Sitting in my Survey of Social Psychology class today helped a lot of loose ends to begin to come together. This semester, my last semester of undergrad, is going to be an adventure like none that I have experienced thus far. I am eagerly seeking God's will with my life. This is it. Time has come to start listening to what the Lord has planned for my next chapter in life. So, how did the social psychology class make anything clearer than it has been? Well, as the professor was giving a general overview of the course and what social psychologists do, he posed the question, "Why did people not intervene before the shooting in Arizona?" What makes people do what they do? What makes people believe what they believe? Why do people help, or not help, someone in need?
As he talked, I could not help but keep thinking about how the Lord has changed me in the past few years of our relationship. I, like everyone else, am human. I mess up... daily. But, what I started to wonder is what faith in Jesus does to a person. God created us (Genesis 1:26-27) so He knows exactly how we are wired because He wired us that way. So, the affects of faith was not just a happenstance. Without faith we have nothing. God knew exactly what He was doing when He decided that believing in Him would be a matter of faith instead of a matter of seeing and touching. Having faith has brought my life out of the pit of despair that I was unaware I was even in and brought me to a place where I CAN SEE HIM! Faith gives us eyes to see what we, as humans, could not imagine because without our faith, we are BLINDED by the world. Let's go to scripture.
"By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith." Hebrews 11:7 NIV
Noah, a man of faith, built an arc to save his family from a flood that would destroy everything in its path. The verse BEGINS "By faith." Noah could have buckled under the pressure of the world and not built the arc, but he didn't. Because of his faith, he was given eyes to see what the world could not even begin to understand.
Back to God's will for my life...
Our society/world is in shambles. Not because it is just that way, but because of sin. The only way to see the peace we hope for is to share the Savior with the world. We are fighting the wrong war. This is not a battle between each other. This is a battle between hearts and minds and the lies Satan leads us to believe. Believers of Christ, guard your hearts, but do not allow for others to fight this battle on their own. Share your faith with someone so they can rejoice in the victory that we have because of Jesus Christ!
As for me, I will be praying earnestly to understand what this means for my life. I have an array of emotions, but one of them is excitement for the journey ahead. Praying that I only look to glorify my King!
